Story board- scene 1,2,4 and 5
As
the days were getting closer to film day, I made story board of the scenes that
we were going to film which were scene 1, 2, 4 and 5. The story boards will
help the cameramen (Abbas and Niranjana) know what my (directors) true vision
is as I want it exactly my way. I wanted an establishing shot to
show exactly the place the characters are with no ambiguity. It is a wide shot
that shows the city areas that’s below the roof. Meaning the roof is in a high
place and it would be dangerous to fall, pus I thought it looked cinematic.
Next shot shows both characters, talking to each other but not looking at each
other instead the skyline. They have a sense of understanding. The next show is
high angle as I want the audience to understand the gravity of the situation,
that their standing on a high cliff. Its very dangerous.
matching with script: -
scene 1- Darren: so, this is where you plan to do it? (the audio
is asynchronous, able to be heard but can not see where the source of the sound
is)
Musa: good place as any.
Then the camera pans to the right showing a bit more of
the background. There is another person visible now but it still is blurry.
Darren: well then why are you hesitating?
Musa: it’s complicated.
Darren: what’s complicated about it?
The camera then shows the front of the two, positioned
low angle now, with a wide shot.
Darren: You jump of the roof, reach the ground in about 3
seconds and then your brain splatters across the concrete floor.
Darren pauses and Musa stays silent.
Darren: Or you could walk away from this and continue
your miserable life.
Musa stays silent.
Darren: still difficult to decide huh, then let me show
you the reasons.
scene 2- Cuts to another location, it looks like a
living room of an apartment. Where Musa front is shown situated in the left of
the scene of the screen, with a woman behind her situated more on the right.
The camera is a medium shot.
Niru: you pushed me away.
Then she tries to walks closer to him, the
camera is handled steadily, steady cam. With Musa still standing, realizing who
it is and showing a remorseful face, trying to resist turning.
Niru: Musa, (sighs) I still don’t get it. I
tried my best to work this out; work us out. But you... you didn’t even try.
You made feel like I was worthless. (still moving forward when speaking).
Musa has a gloomy face, full of regret.
scene 4- Musa: wait up.
Musa gets up and
chases a person, camera following him. It is a tracking shot.
Brother: save it,
I’m not helping you out anymore. Stop begging and support yourself self.
Turns forward but
then turns back again.
Brother: and don’t
go running to dad for help too, he won’t help you either no more.
Then the camera pans to only show his face as
it covers most of the scene, match cut back to the roof.
the camera pans to the right only focusing on Musa’s facial expressions, with the focus being deep focus and Darren’s presence is hard too see as he is blurry
Cut to Musa.
Daren: so after all this why are you still hesitant, why don’t you jump already and end this miserable life.
Musa: stop.
Darren: Your not
capable of change, because this is what you do and will always do until you
die!
Musa: just leave me
alone.
Alone word echoes as
the camera is positioned further and further way to show that he is alone. With
each change in position the word “alone” is heard. Then Musa walks closer to
the cliff to hold the railing, contemplating if he should jump. Cut to black.
The end
Further clarification: Close up shot of Musa's face, with darren far in the distance and unfocused, it's symbolim that darren is just a voice at the back of Musa's mind which will make more sense when the audience learns about the twist. the next shots are the camera paning quickly right and left so that when we see the last shot where Darren would be, he's not there suggesting he was never there to begin with. then a wide shot to show that he's all alone roof is for dramatic effect.
